Volunteer Regional Networker East of England (Essex area)

The Oral History Society is recruiting 1 new networker based in the East of England (Essex area) to join the Society’s Regional Network.

The OHS Regional Network consists of a group of accredited members of the Oral History Society (OHS) who volunteer to act as a point of contact for anyone seeking information about oral history. OHS Regional Networkers actively encourage and support the development and use of oral history in their own locality while highlighting the need to adhere to the good practice and ethical guidelines of the OHS. They respond to inquiries and share their knowledge, expertise and passion for oral history.

Experience Required: We invite oral history practitioners with at least 3 years’ experience of working with oral history in some or any of the following areas:

  • Museums
  • Sound Archives
  • Education and Schools
  • Community projects, especially National Heritage Lottery Fund ones
  • Diversity and Inclusion
  • Digital Media for dissemination

Candidates should be:

  • a paid member of the OHS
  • willing to respond to inquiries from members of the public about oral history
  • able to provide advice on best practice and ethical guidelines
  • willing to actively encourage and support oral history in your region
  • able to attend a minimum of one annual regional networker event every three years

As a Networker you will:

  • be part of a supportive and friendly network of experienced practitioners from across the country
  • be able to draw on the collective expertise of and join discussions with other networkers through the
  • Virtual Network e-discussion list
  • be able to participate in CPD events such as the annual network event
