Community Voices: Oral History on the Ground
The Annual Conference of the Oral History Society
Manchester Metropolitan University
From: 18th July 2014
To: 19th July 2014
This year’s conference promises to be an unmissable event for anyone interested in oral history in the community. We have an exciting and diverse range of papers lined up, covering themes such as project outcomes, hidden communities, intergenerational oral history and many more.
We are pleased to confirm that Linda Shopes, a United States based oral historian with experience in a range of settings, and Simon Elmes, creative director of the BBC radio documentaries unit, will be our two keynote speakers.
We will also be running workshops on a range of topics, including equipment and family history for oral historians. Delegates will also be able to attend the annual general meeting of the OHS. We are delighted that Manchester Metropolitan University will be hosting the conference. The venue is in the heart of Manchester and just five minutes’ walk from the city’s Oxford Road station, with easy access to accommodation, shopping and entertainment.
There will be plenty of time to catch up with other oral historians and delegates may wish to attend a dinner at the university’s newly refurbished art school, with drinks on the rooftop garden (weather permitting).
We hope to see many OHS members at what promises to be a fascinating conference. Keep an eye on this page for booking information.
